Twilight Render

Download Version2 Quickstart.pdf documentatie

http://twilightrender.com/public_data/downloads/Version2%20Quick%20Start.pdf

Twilight Render integrates seamlessly with SketchUp and leverages the ease of physically accurate Material Templates and lights to put the power of photorealistic rendering (and animation) into the hands of any designer.

Twilight is a plugin for Trimble SketchUp that allows you to render photo-realistic images of your scene, completely within the SketchUp interface.

What operating systems does Twilight support?

Currently Twilight supports Vista / Windows 7 & 8. Twilight Render supports Apple OSX version 10.8 and higher (Intel CPU only).

Is Twilight the same as Kerkythea?

No, Twilight is not the same as Kerkythea. Kerkythea is a standalone studio that has been continuously developed for many years. Twilight is built on the same render engine, Kerkythea Echo 2008, as the current version of Kerkythea, and Twilight has a working relationship with it's developers. However, the two products are not the same.

However, because of the shared render engine, Twilight is able to use the same material libraries that are available in Kerkythea, and Twilight can export to Kerkythea XML format.

Twilight provides biased and unbiased rendering using the following methods:

Photon Mapping, Path Tracing, Bi-drectional path tracing, Metropolis Light Transport.

verschil tussen Twilight en Thea

http://twilightrender.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4727

Samenvatting:

Twilight Render "vs." Thea

Jan 27, 2015 3:06 pm

this isn't at all meant to start a debate; I own Thea Render and am considering Twilight. Twilight is very fast. However, in rendering the same scene, I'm finding that Twilight is much faster/cleaner, but Thea is perhaps more accurate in terms of shadows?

I'm not at my computer right now but just set up a very quick small room with some large "obstacles" in it, and found that in Twilight, the light "fills" the space much more effectively, so that the parts in the back of the space seem to be a lot lighter than they should.

I can post a comparison tonight, but was wondering if anyone can advise what may be going on.

Postby Fletch Tue Jan 27, 2015 3:09 pm

Which render setting are you using in Twilight? Which render setting are you comparing it to in Thea? Are you 100 percent sure you have the same lighting in both scenes?

In Twilight V2 there is a feature found in the Plugins>TwilightV2 settings for "match SU Shadows" but this is only for matching the SU sun exactly. There's something quirky about SU's sun, and so we treat the sun one way in most situations, but when matching SU's sun excactly for certain architectural situations, then it's good to have the option available. But it sounds like in your case that the sun shadows is not what we are discussing.

Twilight Render Support

:Twilight Render V2 Help Documents | Twilight Render V2 Quick Start Video Series

Thanks for the quick reply!

You are correct - I'm not referring to sun shadows, rather shadows cast by ambient light.

As noted I'm not at the computer I use for this stuff, but I'm attaching the basic form. The back wall, behind the shapes, is the area I was referring to.

In each case (Twilight and Thea), I haven't changed any settings, and rendered from the same point of view. I'll post renders tonight.

There are so many differences between Thea and Twilight Render, it would be pretty much impossible to explain the why a difference might occur, especially with something as complicated as lighting an interior space. I think the only thing I can say is, does it give you the results you want and is the interface compatible with your workflow? That's the question I would ask anyone comparing any two render engines.

Ok, here are a few comparitive renders. Twilight was on default and Thea was default but set to Adaptive BSD, outdoor .

Basically, the shadowing is more pronounced in the Thea renders, with more apparent reflected light in the (much faster, e.g. 6 seconds vs. 18 seconds) Twilight renders. I'd like to get closer to the Thea renders in terms of color, shadow density, and contrast, but not sure how.

I tried adjusting sky brightness in case that's what was filling in the shape in the Twilight renders, but the contrast between light/dark adjusted accordingly so it didn't make much of a difference.

Also notice what appear to be something like "bright areas" in the Twilight renders, for example inside the "h" shape, and where surfaces meet the floor and each other.

Could be in the way the sky light is interpreted?

Again, please tell us which render setting you are comparing?

By Render Setting - this means which render "mode" you are using. Both Twilight and Thea are hybrid engines so this means you can render in biased or unbiased render modes.

In Twilight, Easy 1-7 are biased modes, Easy 8 is unbiased for exteriors, Easy 9 and 10 are unbiased for interiors.

similar settings can not really be achieved in Thea, but as close as you can get are using Thea biased or unbiased modes.

BSD settings in Thea are "Biased" while "TR1" is remotely comperable to Easy 9 and TR2 is comparable to Easy 10. But again, none of these is actually comparable because the engines are not the same.

It would be like comparing 2 v6 engines from 2 different car manufacturers, sure, they both move the car, but they are not the same engine.

I agree with Chris, choose the one that works best for your workflow. :hat:

Twilight Render Support

:Twilight Render V2 Help Documents | Twilight Render V2 Quick Start Video Series

I'll have to look the settings up tonight; note that I changed the bare minimum in each; default everything for Twilight, and only changed to BSD for Thea.

Anyway - I also have to read the Twilight manual :) Is there one more comprehensive than the Quick Start Guide?

However, in the meantime - can you advise where the default "pink" sky color/light is coming from? The sky color was unchanged before rendering in Twilight (white).

Postby derei Wed Jan 28, 2015 5:29 pm

Does Thea uses Biased rendering modes?

Because from what I can see, what you rendered in Twilight was on Biased, not on Progressive mode.

Try with Twilight setting Easy9, see then the difference.

ARTIST AND DESIGNER DEREI.UK

Yes, Thea uses both biased and progressive rendering. These were done with biased.

I'll try that other setting tonight.

Postby derei Wed Jan 28, 2015 7:45 pm

I made a small experiment with those two images: I made them grayscale (for TL image I had to artificially match the background with thea image).

Then I adjusted the levels and contrast, to see if I can bring both images in the same "area". And I could.

That tells me the illumination is the same in both renders. Only the post-processing made by each engine is different. TL seems to apply a bit more contrast. But that is a per user setting, not a render engine situation.

So, from my point of view, it is possible to achieve same result, just take care to the post-pro settings (exposure, gamma, etc)

P.S. The files are not perfectly matched... it was just for my personal curiosity... there are obvious differences. As I said, was just to check if the illumination is so different.

Thea Render

http://twilightrender.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4727

Thea Render is a physically-based global illumination renderer of high quality. It is a unique renderer that is able to render using state-of-the-art techniques in both biased photorealistic and unbiased modes, with GPU support as well. Thea Render comes both as an integrated plugin rendering inside SketchUp and as a standalone application (Studio) with various tools, material editor and advanced staging operations It is available for all major platforms and plugins for many modeling applications.

Why Thea for SketchUp?

Thea for SketchUp is a combination of powerful rendering engines of Thea with the simplicity of SketchUp. Having biased, unbiased and interactive render modes including GPU support at your fingertips, inside SketchUp view, is a joyful experience. The plugin lets you enrich your models with highly detailed three dimensional content, breaking old limitations related to handled model complexity.

Mac / Win

Thea Presto is a physically-based global illumination renderer of high quality. It is running on both GPU and CPU simultaneously, harvesting all your computer raw power. Take a Tour and see benchmarks for Presto here. Thea Presto GPU runs using NVidia's CUDA technology and thus NVidia graphics card is required.

Solid Iris Technologies is a software development company focusing on high end visualization, photorealistic rendering and machine vision.

Download for Windows

System Requirements: Windows Vista/7/8, SSE2 CPU, for Presto GPU: Nvidia CUDA graphics card (Compute Capability 2.0 or bigger)

SketchUp 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 2013, 2014 and 2015 (Make or Pro)

Download for MacOSX

System Requirements: MacOSX 10.6 and above, Intel CPU, for Presto GPU: Nvidia CUDA graphics card (Compute Capability 2.0 or bigger)

SketchUp 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 2013, 2014 and 2015 (Make or Pro)

Thea for SketchUp allows you to run interactive render either inside Thea window or directly inside SketchUp view, a feature that we call Interactive Render Overlay. Additionally, with the use of Interactive Region Rendering a desired part of SketchUp view can be selected and being rendered providing ultra fast feedback for complex scenery. It is a valuable help in the workflow as it gives you an immediate visualization of geometry modifications, environment, depth of field, reflections, light distribution, material properties and external Thea models in a scene.

Unbiased Engine (TR1/TR2)

With the term "unbiased" we mean that rendering, seen as a simulation process, converges always to the ground truth, computing all ways of lighting transfer without any artifacts. Thea superior unbiased core is the most sophisticated in the market and delivers stunning images without any discounts.

  • Spectral rendering
  • Light Simulation

In Thea Render, we have developed a strong mathematical framework that has led to a very robust unbiased core. This way, it can be also seen as a light simulation tool, performing calculations in the full visible spectral space and including advanced phenomena like volumetric scattering and spectral index of refraction.

Two Variants to Choose

In addition to the above, Thea comes not with one but two, finely-tuned, engines that are optimized, in terms of performance, for different kind of scenes. Unbiased engine TR1 is optimal for exteriors and scenes with dominant direct lighting while unbiased engine TR2 is optimal for extremely difficult indirect and caustic lighting.

Forum

https://thearender.com/forum/

Q. I see that Thea Render is both bias and unbiased renderer. What are the main differences between these methods? When should I use each one?

A. Unbiased methods are techniques that do not introduce any bias into the radiance approximation. The unbiased engines should be preferred when one seeks maximum accuracy with the least possible effort in tuning the render engine (actually none). TR1 engine core should be preferred over TR2 for exteriors and general situations where direct lighting is dominant in the scene. TR2 should be preferred on the other hand for difficult indirect lighting situations, such as indirect caustics (including "sun - pool caustics" ). Please, note that the biased name may be somewhat misleading here, since all engines produce photorealistic renders.

Voordelen:

redelijk goede uitleg in diverse pdf bestanden in het engels
interface wederom eenvoudig
Netwerk rendering mogelijk
Presto is now running on both GPU and CPU
simultaneously, harvesting all your computer raw power.
Mac/ Windows

Nadelen:

Twee verschillende render modes with progressive render inside Viewport and Darkroom. Support.

Help pagina's

http://www.suplugins.com/help2/help-home.php

NB.

SU Podium V2 is a photo-realistic rendering plug-in for SketchUp. SU Podium will turn your SketchUp model into a photo-real image. SU Podium V2 employs advanced rendering technology such as raytracing and global illumination. But it sticks to it's original intention of making photo-realistic rendering for SketchUp an easy and rewarding task. The user interface is simply and does not require advanced knowledge of rendering techniques. Version 2.11 is the lastest update of SU Podium.

Podium Walker

Podium Walker is a photo-realistic, real-time, animations plug-in that works inside SketchUp 7 or 8. It uses ray tracing and also works with SU Podium V2 and Podium Browser content. It is a CPU based rendering plug that displays in real-time, reflections, artificial lights (omni lights and LEM), refractions, bumps. One can also create animations directly from SketchUp scenes or from SU Animate paths. Podium Walker will export to video formats such as .mp4 and .avi. This plugin was created by Cadalog, Inc.

Voordelen:

Relatief eenvoudige menu structuur.

Nadelen:

Render[in]

Paris, September 1, 2010‚ SB2 announced today the launch of Render[in], a fully-integrated, real-time radiosity engine developed for SketchUp Free and Pro users. Render[in] gives SketchUp users the high-definition, realistic renderings they've been looking for, in a powerful, easy-to-use application.

Zie ook de beschrijving van 24 mei 2012 over SB2

SB2 staat voor Studio Base 2 their rendering software group for Render[in].

Render[in] is a fully-integrated, real-time radiosity rendering engine developed for SketchUp Free and Pro. Render[in] is fast, easy to use, and works with all the same SketchUp settings, like geometry, camera, sun, colors, textures, etc. You don't need to change a thing "just render your project!" You can also add your own specific settings like specular reflection, point lights, spotlights, and 3D sky and clouds.

SoftByte Labs, Inc. was founded by Michael Purkhardt on July 12, 1993 and provided medical software (developed by Mr. Purkhardt) for hospitals and physicians. SoftByte Labs also engineered and developed robotic equipments (also engineered by Mr. Purkhardt) for specialized industrial and prototyping needs, such as robot arms and toys. Mr. Purkhardt decided to gear the company towards the software industry and eventually to 3D visualization, which resulted in the creation of Raylectron.

Raylectron took many years of research and testing. Creating such software is not an easy task. While Raytracing exist already for many years prior to Raylectron, they are not photorealistic. To achieve photorealism, tracing the light path to illuminate the objects in a scene requires the understanding of the law of physics, such as photons and how they interact with the surface of the object they hit. In real life, photons travel at the speed of light, hence everything is illuminated almost instantly (to our perception). But as a computer program, this can not be done so easily. First, speed is a big issue. Computers do not calculate anywhere near the speed of light. Furthermore, the mathematics involved is extremely complex.

With all this said, we hope it wasn't too short (better than too big and boring!)

And because its Maxwell, it's all about reality and the real language of light. So you don't need to be a CG expert to get photorealistic images from your 3d models. It's incredibly easy to use, and you'll be amazed at the results!

With the licensed version, you can enjoy full HD resolution (1920x1080), both draft and production render engines, and a license which you can install on both your workstation and your laptop.

Currently, this plugin supports all versions of SketchUp from version 6 on up. However, the SketchUp API it uses for export has been deprecated, requiring a total rewrite. This note is to inform that in doing so, I intend to drop support for all 32-bit versions of SketchUp, meaning that henceforth we will only be supporting SketchUp 2015 and up. The timeline is to have this work completed by the next release of SketchUp. Please feel free to let me know any thoughts you may have on this.

LumenRT

Photorealistic Rendering (inside SketchUp)

http://www.lumenrt.com/

LumenRT is e-on software's revolutionary new product for the visualization of architectural projects in real-time 3D with accurately simulated lighting. Thanks to LumenRT, architects no longer have to choose between high- quality images and real-time visualization: They can walk or fly through their designs and experience the true quality of light in fully immersive 3D! LumenRT real-time environments are packaged into convenient, self- contained executables that can be run on any computer without requiring additional software.

intensive depending on the task being performed. The pre-processing phase is CPU intensive while the navigation/viewing process is GPU intensive.

LumenRT is a 32 & 64 bits application, designed for the Windows and Mac OS X platforms.

A Shader model 4 compliant video board is required (i.e. reasonably modern). The better the video board, the better the experience, especially during playback of the LiveCube. A minimum of 1GB of Video RAM (VRAM) is recommended (Video RAM should not be confused with system RAM. Video RAM resides solely on your video board).

A 64 bit system is highly recommended for authoring LiveCubes (32 bit systems are fine for playback). LumenRT is either CPU or GPU intensive depending on the task being performed. The pre-processing phase is CPU intensive while the navigation/viewing process is GPU intensive.

Performance of the software is directly related to the power of the system running it. LumenRT is optimized to make the best of all the processors/cores on your system. The power of your video board directly impacts the frame-rate during real-time 3D play-back. Pre-processing times are directly related to the power of your system and the complexity of the scenes being processed.

LumenRT 2015 can run as a stand-alone application, or as a plug-in for the following CAD/BIM/GIS systems:

* ArchiCAD 17/18 (Windows and OSX)
* CityEngine 2012/2013/2014/2015 (Windows only)
* MicroStation SS3
* Revit 2012/2013/2014/2015/2016
* SketchUp 7/8/2013/2014/2015 (make or Pro versions, Windows and OSX)

Export and Illumination Processing

The more powerful the computer used to create scenes, render them as stills or animations or export them as LiveCubes, the faster the operation. Following are the minimum requirements for this:

* Windows Windows 7/Windows 8 32/64 or Mac OS X v10.6+ 32/64 (64bit recommended)

* nVidia GeForce GTX 470 / ATI Radeon HD 6950 or better video board, with 1GB+ of Video RAM

* Core i5 or more powerful CPU

* 4+ GB of free RAM

* 10+ GB of free Hard Disk space.

Navigation / Viewing

The more powerful the computer on which you or your client will navigate and explore the LiveCubes, the better the visual quality and smoothness of the experience. If you create complex models, more graphics power will be required for smooth playback.

* Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8 32/64 or Mac OS X v10.6+ 32/64

* nVidia GeForce GTX 470 or ATI Radeon HD 6950 or better video board, with 1GB+ of Video RAM

* 2 GHz processor or faster

* 2 GB of free RAM (4GB recommended)

* 2 GB of free Hard Disk space.

Meerdere grafische kaarten helpt niet altijd

I recently got a new work computer with Dual Titan X's to help with our LumenRT animations. I've noticed thought that only one of the cards is being used. Will Lumen take advantage of both of the cards? They are currently set up as an SLI configuration if that makes any difference.

I've tried all three modes, but I get the same result each time. One of the two will show usage, and the other sits unused. I even tried disabling the SLI from some info I read on the Octane forums, but it hasn't made a difference. I did export a video, but it was still only using one of the cards. Will Lumen take advantage of two full sized cards or is that something that would need to be written into the program? I use Thea Render as well and that will use both cards without a problem.

SketchUp has never looked so good

LightUp is the fastest and simplest SketchUp renderer on the market.

Thousands of professionals, from one-person architecture practices to movie-makers at Pixar, choose the LightUp plugin for SketchUp to instantly illuminate their models and show their work in the best possible light.

LightUp for SketchUp is a SketchUp plugin that adds realistic, realtime lighting to your SketchUp models.

Add lights and windows and watch your SketchUp scenes glow with gorgeous reflected light, soft shadows, subtle shading. When you're ready, you can export your lit model to a compressed file containing your model, textures and Scenes, and share it with others using the free LightUp Player or LightUp Web Player.

* Read more about LightUp for SketchUp

Welcome to true real-time rendering

LightUp is the only SketchUp renderer that uses object-based rendering. This means you get stunningly accurate and beautiful results instantly inside the SketchUp window.

The speed of LightUp makes it perfect for the way designers work. You can tweak and iterate your models and immediately see results. There's no waiting around for minutes or hours as with old-fashioned ray-tracing renderers.

Move the camera around your model and watch everything render perfectly in real time.

Create fly-through movies and export a file that can be played by your clients in their web browser.

Whether you're working on product visualisations, architectural designs or immersive 3D experiences, LightUp gives you speed, quality and simplicity in a single SketchUp extension.

http://www.light-up.co.uk/index.php?t=features&vc=US&c=USD

Realtime walkthroughs

LightUp gives the ability to have realtime walkthrough and flythough of your fully lit model, all running inside the SketchUp window. Simply place light sources in your Sketchup model switch to Touring mode and you can explore how your model looks from any angle. Change the time of year / time of day to perform shadow analysis using the advanced Rayleigh sunlight model.

Add a 3D backdrop in the form of a Skybox or HDR Panorama images to situate your model in a realistic surrounding. Use SketchUp Scenes tabs to author a scripted navigation around your model or take manual control and walk around your model to get a realistic sense of how your lighting works.

Simple Dynamic Components are supported in Touring mode, so for example doors can open automatically as you approach to give a seamless navigation.

High quality Results

While Touring your model, you can create instant High Resolution Stills from the current viewpoint so you can iterate quicky through a whole range of ideas. Resolution of Stills is only limited by available memory - presets for common 300dpi page sizes are available as well as standard 1920 x 1080, 3840 x 2160 sizes. All of these can optionally produce the accompanying floating point depth maps to allow further post processing.

As well as anti-aliased still images, LightUp can create AVI Movies of your model in a fraction of the time of traditional rendering packages right up to 1280 x 720 HD format. Advanced features such as motion blur are supported for a natural look.

Instant one-click exporting of Panoramas in a variety of layouts is also supported and can be used as Skyboxes within subsequent LightUp models or used to produce Quicktime VR files to share with others.

Exporting your lit Sketchup model is supported using Autodesk FBX files which can then be imported into other Applications that support multi-layer materials. A one-click export/import workflow is supported for the popular Unity game authoring system.

Light Sources

Adding light sources to your model is quick and simple and requires just placing a SketchUp Component at the position you want a light source and editing its lighting properties. Entering a Lumen value for your light source gets you started in seconds. Adding an IES luminaire definition file (available online from most manufacturers), allows you to evaluate lighting using real fittings. IES Type A, B and C light types are supported in LightUp making it ideal for both interior and exterior lighting design. Tools for orienting/targetting entire groups of lights make light rigging super quick as does the ability of LightUp to filter all light sources through any gobo or indeed any non-opaque materials the light passes through.

Naturally, Area lights are supported with controls for both Lux (Lumen/square meter) as well as spread angle. The Rayleigh sunlight model provided by LightUp can be tweaked both in terms of Power and Turbidy to get the look you want as well simply being disabled. A powerful feature of LightUp is Image based Lighting which will use you backdrop as a global light source to illuminate your model. This technique ensures you have lighting that is complex and yet naturally blends with the backdrop.

Lux / Insolation Analysis

IES colored models

A powerful feature of LightUp is to produce pseudo colored models showing the distribution of light within your model. These models can be explored in Touring mode as normal and allow a deep exploration of the analysis results. Lux Analysis shows the distribution of direct local light in your model and provides a realtime lightmeter to take spot Lux measurements. Insolation Analysis takes account of the Geo-Location of your model as well as the current time of year, to produce a daily Kwh/m2 day visualization. As with Lux Analysis, a light meter gives spot results for the surface being hovered over but in addition a tracked value for the surface to aid Solar Energy analysis.

Caravaggio RENDER respects the philosophy of modeling software that hosts it. In fact, although the working principle and algorithms that underlie the various versions of Caravaggio RENDER are the same, the Rhinoceros version differs from Caravaggio RENDER for SketchUp into their modus operandi. In full compliance with the modeling philosophy, which distinguishes Rhino from SketchUp, Caravaggio RENDER highlights even more the intuitiveness of certain operations of one modeler or the other. In this way Caravaggio RENDER becomes a tool to assist during all stages provided throughout the entire modeling process. The full integration of Caravaggio RENDER with the modeling software, leads to a total fusion of both, the rendering and the modeling phases, transforming the entire process of conceptualization and presentation of design, in a sequence of more direct and effective operations.

Caravaggio RENDER is therefore the ideal renderer for that user who prefers to obtain an immediate result without having to engage in the adjustment of complex parameters and values, typically required to obtain a photorealistic rendering. RENDER version, in fact, though based on the most sophisticated algorithm for Unbiased global illumination (Heuristic Bidirectional Path Tracing) capable of simulating the physical behavior of light, allows to achieve very realistic outputs, without compelling the user to deepen concepts, sometimes very complex to adjust values at the best.

Caravaggio

Available in two versions: Render and Studio for both Windows and OS X, Caravaggio adopts one o the most advanced unbiased physically correct rendering methods based on Heuristic Bidirectional Path Tracing engine. Simulates the physics of light and achieves photo-realistic quality of renderings reducing time through bouncing errors collection. Developed to be fully-integrated into SketchUp Free and Pro, Caravaggio is fast and keeps all SketchUp settings, like geometry, camera, sun, colors, textures, etc.

Bloom Unit is now Bigger, Faster and Better image

Big Speed Boost and Double the Memory

We have just rolled out a major upgrade of our cloud rendering servers behind Bloom Unit. Every user of Bloom Unit now gets two NVIDIA Tesla K40 cards dedicated to their rendering. This gives a big jump in speed as well as double the memory. Best of all, you don’t need to do a thing, the upgrade has already happened and there is no additional charge for using the faster hardware. See below for more details.

1.6x - 2.0x Faster.

More performance, same price.

With faster hardware deployed on our servers you will now get your renderings back even quicker. Depending on your scene and lighting configuration you should find you get at least 1.6x the speed and up to 2.0x in some cases. So a render that previously took 20 minutes for example would now only take about 12 minutes.

Double the Memory.
Fit even more into your models.

We have now moved from 6GB of memory to 12GB of memory in the GPU hardware on our servers so you can render twice as much geometry and texture detail. Combined with the recently added instancing feature you can now make truly massive models and take fuller advantage of our proxy object library
